The Toronto Blue Jays threw in the towel on one of their former top prospects ahead of the 2024 MLB trade deadline when they traded pitcher Nate Pearson to the Chicago Cubs. In exchange for Pearson, the Blue Jays received two prospects;
Lukes entered 2025 hoping to compete for a bench spot and earn playing time. But his game-winning hit on Thursday pushed the outfielder’s OPS up to .808, the fourth-highest on the team. The Blue Jays, who need unexpected breakouts to elevate out of the American League’s jumbled middle, are happy Lukes didn’t quit, too.
Perhaps the most bizarre ceremonial first pitch in MLB history was thrown at the Rogers Centre on Thursday ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays game against the San Diego Padres. A group of five people wearing bright green cricket costumes took to the field before the game and proceeded to huddle up at the pitchers mound.
