U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, who has represented Austin in Congress for 30 years, said Thursday he might not seek reelection in 2026 if the state’s newly approved redistricting map remains in place.

State of play: Casar and Doggett would have battled for a single Austin-based district under the new congressional map that the Texas House approved on Wednesday and which the Senate is expected to pass soon. Gov. Greg Abbott has said he'll sign the legislation.

Doggett and fellow Rep. Greg Casar's two heavily Democratic seats were shrunk into one in the Republican gerrymander.
